Fenway_Orchestra0707.jpg Apple, which is rosaceous, is the most widely cultivated fruit in the world, and the episode about apples goes as follows. Apple, the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge in the Bible, Snow White¡¯s apple dramatized by the Grimm brothers, Newton¡¯s apple that became the cause of the discovery of the universal gravitation, the apple of William Tell, who liberated Switzerland by making the venture of shooting the arrow at the apple on his son¡¯s head, the apple of Cezanne, which became a painting after being observed in many different directions, and which made Picasso the Cubist possible, and lastly, the apple of Alan Turing and Steven Jobs.

During World War II, an English mathematician Alan Turing deciphered the secret code of the Germans, enigma, using the Colossus Cryptogram Decoding computer, and this technology became the initial point of the digital computer age. However, after the war, Turing killed himself by eating the poisoned apple when being branded as a homosexual. Later in 1976, Steven Jobs became the first in the world to make a personal computer, and he used a bite-eaten apple as the symbol of the Apple Incorporation in the memory of Turing. Steven Jobs worked hard in the early 1980s with the IBM and Microsoft union, but was dismissed from the Apple in 1985. However, he established the Next, took over Pixar, and made a hit on every work produced including ¡®Toy Story¡¯ and ¡®Finding Nemo¡¯. In 1997, he re-entered the Apple and began to bring out the best products such as the iPod (including iTunes, the online music sales service) and iPhone. At last in 2010, he subjugated the IT world with the iPad and acceded to the first place of the 2010 Fortune selected CEO. So why am I talking about apple and computer in the middle of the musician stories?

The Beatles is the singer who has currently won the most first places, with 20 pieces being the first place of the Billboard chart and 50 pieces being the top 40 singles. They have made incredible success by selling about 106,000,000 albums alone in the US and over one billion around the world. They are even recognized by the critics as ¡°the most successive band in the history of the popular music¡±. Therefore, it is not absurd at all to add the Beatles in the 4B of the musicians together with Bach, Beethoven, and Brahms.

In 1968, the members of the Beatles, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr established the Apple Record, and they allowed Steven Jobs to use the name Apple after Jobs promised not to be involved in the business related to music. However, they entered a lawsuit when the Apple computer developed iTunes. Jobs won and the case was settled by Jobs still using the name Apple and giving several million dollars to the Beatles in compensation.

Apple¡¯s iTunes sells music files linked with the iPod for 99 cents apiece, and it has played a decisive role to the income of the Apples with the record of the download of 1.5 billion songs in 2006. However, for several reasons, the download of the Beatles songs is not permitted in the Apples. If the Apples, which own the most popular music download site in the world, allow the download of the Beatles songs, it would give the opportunity for both the Apple computer and the Apple Record to gain a massive amount of money.

Did you have fun with the World Cup this month? Spain and the Netherlands, who matched against each other in the final round of the World Cup, were in fact involved in a fierce war to get land in the American continent 500 years ago.

Columbus discovered the American continent in 1492. Around the time Spain and the Netherlands conquered most parts of America, the English arrived in the Northern coast of Florida in 1585 and named the place Virginia. The place was named after Queen Elizabeth, who was a virgin at the time, but the English got into fight with the Spanish and for several reasons, the settlers were massacred only after two years.

Afterwards, the Puritans, the extreme Calvinists, got on the Mayflower in 1620, established the Plymouth Colony in Massachusetts, and in 1630, around a thousand settlers arrived at Shawmut, and the place was named Boston since many of them were from ¡®Boston¡¯, Lincolnshire state, England. There were several disputes after the settlement, and the opposite power went upstream and set up a new town in Cambridge, where the Harvard University and MIT are today. The discontented powers continued to fall apart and settled in Connecticut (where Yale University is today) and Rhode Island, expanding the English influence and becoming the cornerstone of the US Federal Foundation.

Boston Landmarks Orchestra, different from Boston Symphony Orchestra (BSO), is made up of amateur musicians. The Orchestra performs every July and August each year in places such as Charles riverside and the Red Sox Fenway Park, and BSO performs on weekends at Tanglewood.RedSox0617_2010 (23).jpg

In August, 2001, Haenam General Hospital newspaper was published, and the Friday employee training began. In August, 2003, the diabetes training center opened in Haenam General Hospital. Also, I am going back to Haenam General Hospital this August after one year of training in Boston. I will see you in Boston and Musician 7 (August).

1)       The Turing Award, a Nobel Prize in computer, exists in the memory of Turing,

2)       The logo of the Apple Computer is a bite-eaten apple, and the logo of the Apple Core is a pure green Granny Smith apple.

3)       In 1492, the total population of Europe was 60 million, and the American Indians, 80 million. Therefore, ¡®trade¡¯ is a more appropriate term than ¡®discovery¡¯. Columbus started on the voyage to open up the sea route to trade with India. However, he thought 30% less of the circumference of the earth, and concluded as to reach India without turning around the Cape of Good Hope in Africa only if he sailed toward the west.
